The 1962 Topps baseball cards are difficult to find in high grades because their woodgrain design edges chip easily. Many sentimental-favorite Houston players didn't get cards from Topps (e.g., Pidge Browne, Billy Goodman). Joe Amalfitano was the only player who appeared wearing a Colt .45s cap. In 1962, Topps’ printing plates for its second series of baseball cards were damaged when they were being transferred between printers. The new plates and printer resulted in variations including a green tint contrasted with the blue tint of the original print run. Three Colt .45s players are in the second series—Cicotte, Ranew, and Shantz. Most experts say the green tint cards demand higher prices. However, that did not prove to be consistently the case when I was collecting these cards.
